November 2026, written in advance

A watch for the thread Markets follow people. Three checkpoints fall in November 2026 at which the word or the standing of a US office is put to the market. This page writes down, before any of them, what each of two readings expects, the signatures that would tell them apart, and how the data will be read afterwards.

Registered on 22 October 2026. Nothing above the section Changes will be altered. If a checkpoint moves, the new date is added under Changes with the day it was learned, and the rules stay as written. The result will be added under Result after 13 November 2026, dated.

The checkpoints

DateWhat happensWhere the date comes from
Wednesday 4 November 2026The Treasury’s quarterly refunding announcement, usually at 8:30 New York time: the sizes of the 3-, 10- and 30-year auctions of the following week, whether the Treasury keeps its guidance that coupon auction sizes will stay unchanged for at least the next several quarters, and its plans for buybacks. The Treasury’s refunding statement of 5 August 2026, which names this date for the next announcement. Confirmed by the Treasury.
Thursday 5 November 2026A closed hearing at the White House before a committee of three officials appointed by the president, on whether there is cause to remove a member of the Federal Reserve Board whose removal he first announced in August 2025. In June 2026 the Supreme Court let the governor stay in office while the case continues.A presidential memorandum dated 7 October 2026, as reported on 9 and 10 October 2026 by several outlets. Press-reported; the memorandum itself was not read for this page.
Tuesday 10 November 2026The deadline for the governor’s final written statement to the committee, after which its findings go to the president. The US consumer price index for October is published at 8:30 the same morning. The same reports. It is a deadline and not an event: the statement may come earlier and may not be made public.
Any date to 31 December 2026An announced decision on whether to remove the governor.Conditional. If none is announced by 31 December 2026, it is recorded as not having occurred.

A correction before registration: the private brief behind the thread called 10 November the date of the governor’s written response. The reports give it as the deadline for that statement.

The two readings

Reading A, the thread’s. In the autumn of 2026 the US market is answering interest rates, not the standing of the people who speak for the Treasury and the Fed. Where an office’s ability to say no is held by others, by courts or by a committee, a challenge to it moves prices little, or moves them and they come back.

Reading B, the trust story, written so that it can fail. The market is testing whether the Treasury can hold a line on long-term yields, and whether the Fed can say no to the White House. Each checkpoint is a test of standing, and the market answers it as one.

CheckpointReading A expectsReading B expects
4 November, refundingNo move, the rates signature, or a mixed result, and not the trust signature. If the Treasury changes auction sizes or its guidance, a move in long yields without a fall in the dollar. The trust signature or trust in part on the day, or relief undone: a fall in the 10-year yield that has gone two sessions later, as in August 2026.
5 November, hearingNo move, or trust in part that has gone by the end of the two-session window. The trust signature on the day, still there at the end of the two-session window.
10 November, deadlineNot read. The consumer price release of the same morning will dominate the day. The numbers are recorded and count for neither reading.
A decision on removalIf removal is announced: trust in part on the day, with less steepening than on 21 April 2025 (the 30-year rising less than 17 bp more than the 2-year), and partly reversed within two sessions. If the decision is not to remove: no move.If removal is announced: the full trust signature on the day, still there at the end of the two-session window.

Windows

Rules

Applied to each window in this order. A change is the value at the end of the window less the value at the start; bp is a basis point, a hundredth of a percentage point.

  1. No move if the 2-, 10- and 30-year yields each change by less than 4 bp, the dollar by less than 0.3 per cent and gold by less than 0.75 per cent.
  2. The trust signature if all four hold.
T1: the 30-year yield rises by at least 5 bp more than the 2-year, and does not fall.
T2: the dollar falls by at least 0.3 per cent.
T3: gold rises by at least 0.5 per cent.
T4: the 10-year breakeven does not fall by more than 1 bp.
Trust in part if T1 holds and at least one of T2 to T4.
Relief undone, for the refunding only: the 10-year yield falls by at least 5 bp in the day window and is back at or above its starting close by the end of the two-session window. It counts as trust in part.
  3. The rates signature if all three hold.
R1: the 2-year yield moves by at least 3 bp, the 30-year moves the same way, and the 30-year’s move is no more than 2 bp larger than the 2-year’s.
R2: the dollar moves the same way as the 2-year, by at least 0.2 per cent.
R3: the 10-year breakeven moves by no more than 2 bp either way.
  4. Mixed for anything else. It is reported with its numbers and counts for neither reading.

T1 and R1 cannot both hold, so no window can show both signatures.

How the rules read three past windows

The thresholds were set with these cases in view, so they reproduce the thread’s own readings of them. That is a calibration and not a test. The November windows are the test.

Known in advance

Scheduled events in or near the windows, any of which can move the same series:

These are why the refunding checkpoint is weak and the 10 November checkpoint is not read. The 5 November day window is the cleanest of the three, and it is still a daily close.

What the result could change

Limits. It is one case and not a pattern. Daily closes give grade B at best. The signatures are this thread’s reading of past cases, not a result from the literature, and the thresholds were set on the same cases. The dollar index is a noon fixing, and the gold measure is a fund that tracks the metal.
